Environment
Bangladesh
is one of the countries most susceptible to the negative impacts
of sea level rises and other long-term impacts of climate change.
Therefore the relationship between climate change, climate variability
and Integrated Water
Resources Management (IWRM) is pivotal in defining
Bangladeshs future development prospects.
Within
the sector program IWRM the Netherlands will address environme
ntal
issues like climate change and the rise of sea levels. Other topics
are wetlands management and bio-diversity conservation.
The
Royal Netherlands Embassy supports the Asian Development Bank activity
Sundarban Bio-diversity Conservation Project, which concentrates
on establishing a sustainable management system for the largest
Mangrove forest on earth, the Sundarbans in the south-western part
of Bangladesh.
Climate
change is one of the issues that will receive attention this year.
Activities will have links with the sub-sector coastal zone management
and coastal zone protection activities of the IWM-sector.
Within
the Rural Electrification sector initiatives towards the development
of Renewable Energy will be explored. |
